Job summary

Mercy Hospital Springfield is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer to perform advanced echocardiography and obtain high-quality diagnostic images that aid physicians in diagnosing cardiovascular conditions. You will work in a collaborative team, prepare patients, document procedures, and maintain imaging records in PACS while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

New graduates are encouraged to apply; ARDMS or CCI certification or registry eligibility within 6 months, along with BLS and state licensure

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Sonography program with required clinical training, OR completion of on-the-job training under a registered Cardiac Ultrasound Preceptor.
  • No prior experience required; new graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI (RCS) certification or registry eligible (must obtain certification within 6 months of eligibility).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • State licensure, if required by state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform adult echocardiography procedures and obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Select imaging techniques and evaluate image quality for clarity, accuracy, and completeness before physician interpretation.
  • Prepare, position, and assist patients throughout procedures while providing compassionate care and education.
  • Review imaging orders and accurately document patient information, procedures, contrast administration, and patient responses.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after exams, utilizing appropriate transfer and immobilization techniques when necessary.
  • Manage and maintain imaging records within PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System).
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning, maintenance, and safety checks.
  • Identify equipment or technology needs and help facilitate resolutions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and healthcare team members to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Do
As a Cardiac Sonographer, You Will
  • Perform adult echocardiography procedures and obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Select appropriate imaging techniques and evaluate image quality for clarity, accuracy, and completeness before physician interpretation.
  • Prepare, position, and assist patients throughout procedures while providing compassionate care and education.

What We're Looking For
Required Education
  • Graduate of an accredited Sonography program with required clinical training, OR
  • Completion of on-the-job training under the supervision of a registered Cardiac Ultrasound Preceptor.
Experience
  • No prior experience required.

Certification & Licensure
  • ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI (RCS) certification or registry eligible (must obtain certification within 6 months of eligibility).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Strong knowledge of echocardiographic imaging and diagnostic techniques.
  • Ability to recognize technical abnormalities and obtain diagnostic-quality studies.

  • Adaptability in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Understanding of imaging protocols and appropriate adjustments.
  • Knowledge of safe equipment operation and emergency procedures.
  • Commitment to teamwork, patient-centered care, and continuous learning.
This Position Requires The Ability To
  • Push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Frequently reach, grip, bend, kneel, twist, and squat while assisting patients and performing procedures.
