General Description of the Job Class

Perform daily clinical operations of Echocardiography, including performing echocardiograms, entering preliminary interpretations, and covering all sites and shifts, including call coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms, as requested by physicians and in accordance with standard practices.
  2. Provide echocardiography services at all necessary locations, working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent call coverage as scheduled.
  3. Operate equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and obtain optimal diagnostic recordings; utilize ancillary devices such as transducers, digital networking systems, and off-line analysis systems.
  4. Maintain equipment in working order, making minor adjustments and repairs, performing routine cleaning, and reporting malfunctions.
  5. Analyze patient medical records to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for diagnostic procedures.
  6. Prepare preliminary reports for review and interpretation by Cardiologists, including comparison with previous studies.
  7. Participate in quality improvement activities, evaluate procedure results for technical quality and accuracy, and maintain logs, files, and records.
  8. Review department performance against goals and implement changes to improve outcomes.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of patients, employees, and activities.
  10. Instruct students, fellows, nurses, or health personnel as requested.
  11. Attend meetings and conferences to ensure continuing education and professional growth.
  12. Cultivate a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
Required Qualifications
Education:Graduate or completion of a program meeting eligibility requirements for registry/certification, or currently holds required registry or certification.
Experience:None required beyond education/certification. Level I must obtain ARDMS certifications within 18 months; Level II requires at least two years' experience; Level III requires at least four years' experience in the specialty modality.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:ARDMS/CCI certification in Echocardiography; BLS certification; certifications must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
