Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health in Plano, TX seeks a Cardiac Sonographer II to perform transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiograms for adult patients. Prepare patients, obtain history and select imaging to achieve diagnostic quality.

Responsibilities include acquiring and measuring images, identifying abnormalities, assisting physicians in procedures, supporting ICAEL standards, recording lab statistics, and mentoring staff and students.

Qualifications

  • Grad of an Accredited Program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
  • License: RCS or RDCS; BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • 3–5+ years of Cardiac Sonographer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history for diagnostic echocardiograms.
  • Perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures and measurements.
  • Identify abnormalities and correlate results with anatomy and function.
  • Assist physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms with echocardiography studies.
  • Conduct transesophageal studies and sterilize the probe.
  • Record statistics and maintain Echocardiography Lab equipment.
  • Act as a resource to staff, physicians and students; support ICAEL accreditation efforts.

Job Summary
Patient Population:complex and critical
Patient Ratios: inpatient
Number of Rooms: inpatient facility
Shift: Day shift 3, 8hr Shifts per week
Required License - RCS or RDCS
Required Experience: more than 3-5 years as Cardiac Sonographer
Call Requirement: 5:30pm – 7am weekends 5:30pm- 6:30am weekdays
The Cardiac Sonographer 2 performs basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound services and procedures for adult patients such as transthoracic, transesophageal and stress, used to diagnose and assess cardiac abnormalities. General duties include preparing equipment, prepping patients and explaining procedures, reviewing the images, report findings, analyzing patient clinical history in order to identify the purpose of the examination, framing the clinical question that the examination is intended to answer, and expanding the examination as necessary to answer the clinical questions.

Essential Functions Of The Role
Prepare patients for procedures and obtains clinical history from the patient including cardiac related physical findings and pertinent laboratory data in order to adapt the imaging techniques to obtain comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiograms to alleviate the probability of erroneous clinical interpretation of the echocardiogram.
Performs basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures utilizing a variety of equipment and techniques, and makes the necessary measurements required for the interpretation to obtain accurate, high quality results.
Identifies and defines cardiac abnormalities and extends the scope of the examination appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary and correlating invasive and noninvasive cardiac diagnostic test results with cardiac anatomy and function.
May assist physicians in the procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies to aid them in proceeding with complex procedures to decrease risk factors.
Assists in performing transesophageal studies with cardiologist, calculating appropriate measurements and sterilizes probe.
Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
Acts as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care.
Works closely with cardiac sonographer quality coordinator to ensure adherence to quality processes and protocols, and assists with ICAEL accreditation activities as delegated.
Implements protocols as new technology evolves, and ensures implementation and adherence to system echocardiography standards.

    Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS): Must have one of the following at time of hire/transfer:
    • RCS through Cardio Credentialing Intl. (CCI)
    • RDCS through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
