Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer to assist in diagnosing heart disease through transthoracic echocardiography. You will recognize normal and abnormal cardiovascular findings in varied settings and contribute to patient care alongside a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires completion of an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program, ARDMS/CCI registry or eligibility, and current BLS.

Qualifications

• Completion of didactic coursework from an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program.
• Completion of 60% of required clinical hours in an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program.
• Registry or registry eligible with ARDMS or CCI; must obtain certification within first 6 months of employment.
• Competent and proficient in Transthoracic Echocardiography
• Current CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – BLS from American Heart Association preferred
• Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Working knowledge of the IT systems that support the modality
• Ability to identify and flag abnormalities

• Understands and follows departmental protocols and procedures in the performance of exams and produces work that meets quality standards.

• Maintains the physical work environment in a manner that meets departmental and regulatory requirements.
• Reports supply shortage or equipment failure to section supervisor.
• Follows work and patient schedules.
• Assist physician in the performance of procedures.
• Maintains logs and documentation as per departmental protocol.
• Provides patient history or information necessary for proper interpretation of the procedure
• Participates in the training and development of students assigned to area through clinical affiliations.
• Fills department staffing needs as determined by the management team.
• Required adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet staffing needs as determined by the management team

Pay Range: $32.00 - $52.08 per hour

Summary

This role will assist in the diagnosis of heart disease according to established standards. This role will work to recognize normal and abnormal characteristics of cardiovascular abnormalities in a variety of settings. Competent and proficient in the performance of Transthoracic Echocardiography. As a Cardiac Sonographer understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care in regards to their growth and development process. The position actively supports the Hospital’s and Department’s Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals, individually and as an effective team member. Required Job Qualifications:

Physical Demands

• Requires full range body motion including handling and lifting patients when necessary. Must be able to move the equipment to perform Diagnostic Sonograms on a portable basis.
• Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
