Job summary

Rochester Regional Health in Batavia, NY seeks a Cardiac Sonographer to perform diagnostic echocardiographic procedures and provide patient-centered care. You will use 2D, M-Mode, color flow, pulse wave and other Doppler techniques following established protocols.

Responsibilities include imaging, chart review, data entry, and delivering preliminary findings for cardiology review. RDCS/RCS credentials are required or pursued, with strong communication and attention to detail expected.

  • Certificate, Associate's, or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited cardiac echo sonographer program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Patient Care: explain procedure, assist with transfers, provide individualized care as needed.
  • Imaging: review chart, utilize protocols, obtain optimal images, transfer studies to PACS, assist reading cardiologist
  • Documentation: record times of findings, enter data in EMR/procedure logs
  • Equipment Management: clean equipment, report failures, coordinate with BioMedical Engineering

STATUS: Full time

LOCATION: UMMC - 127 North Street, Batavia, NY 14020

DEPARTMENT: Noninvasive Cardiology

SCHEDULE: Mon - Fri; 8 am - 4:30 pm

SUMMARY

As a Cardiac Sonographer, your kind, patient-focused attitude and proven experience in echocardiography lead to critical discovery, diagnosis, and treatment. Performs medically prescribed diagnostic echocardiographic procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics, utilizing various modes and techniques, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, M-Mode, color flow, pulse wave, and continuous wave Doppler, in accordance with accepted protocols.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Patient Care. Explain procedure with instructions, to insure patient cooperation, patient safety and optimal results; assist patient during transfer from wheelchair, stretcher or bed to exam table; provide individualized patient care (i.e. request interpreter, ambulation, toileting, etc.) as needed
  • Imaging. Review patient chart and history; utilize imaging protocols and standards; enter patient demographics on ultrasound machine; utilize proper patient positioning techniques to obtain optimal image quality; obtain all measurements required for study; end and transfer study to cardiology PACS; access preliminary diagnostic report and formulate an initial interpretation for the reading cardiologist
  • Documentation. Record time of critical finding and time which cardiologist was notified; documentation may include patient's EMR/progress notes, documented and signed procedure performed, date and time completed; record procedure information in appropriate procedure logs, used to gather information for echocardiography QA/QI
  • Equipment Management. Clean equipment after each procedure with approved cleaning products; report equipment failures to supervisory staff as needed; contact BioMedical Engineering and/or manufacturer's service representative, as directed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2 years of experience in cardiac imaging or a related field
  • or Certificate, Associate's, or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited cardiac echo sonographer program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Appropriate credentials in echocardiography from: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)
  • Superior customer service and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2) to four (4) year college degree in health-related imaging (ultrasound, radiology) preferred
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience as a Registered Sonographer preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision‑making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask‑fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

$36.00 - $50.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
