Job summary

University Health is seeking a skilled Cardiac Sonographer to operate non-invasive cardiology lab equipment, ensuring high quality and safe procedures. Candidates should understand thoracic and cardiac anatomy and be able to translate this knowledge into diagnostic 2-D images and Doppler data.

Required ARDMS/CCI credential with six months to obtain if newly hired; one year of echocardiography and Doppler experience desirable, EKG/Holter/Exercise testing experience encouraged.

Qualifications

• ARDMS or CCI credential required; new grads must obtain credentials within six months of hire.
• New grads under supervision until credentials are active.
• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment in the non-invasive cardiology lab to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety for procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of thoracic anatomy and heart function to produce diagnostic 2-D images and Doppler recordings.
• Apply understanding of cardiac anatomy and pathology to ultrasonography procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates technical expertise in the operation of all equipment utilized in the non-invasive cardiology laboratory. Ensures quality, efficiency, and safety in performance of all patient procedures. Has knowledge of thoracic anatomy, especially heart position; of dynamic internal structural anatomy of heart and component functions; of Cardiac pathology and how it alters heart position and internal structural detail. Knows basic principles of M-Mode, 2-Dimensional and Doppler Ultrasound.Is capable of interrelating knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pathology to that concerning the operation of ultrasonography to produce diagnostic quality 2-D images and doppler frequency shift recordings.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

An American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International credential is required. New graduates must complete these required credentials within six months of hire. New graduates pending required credentials will work under the supervision of a registered Cardiac Sonographer. Bachelors Degree in related field is preferred.

One year in the performance of Echocardiographs and Doppler Ultrasound; working experience in EKG's, Holter Monitoring, and scanning, and exercise tolerance tests is desirable. Two or more years of preferred experience.
