Virginia Heart, a premier cardiovascular practice in Northern Virginia, seeks a professional Cardiac Sonographer to perform noninvasive cardiac ultrasound procedures and provide high-quality images for heart function assessment. This role involves patient interaction, data entry in EMR, and collaboration with cardiology physicians.

The ideal candidate has an AS degree with CAAHEP/JRC requirements and ARDMS registry preferred, plus BLS.

Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred for clinical credentialing.
• CAAHEP-accredited cardiac sonography program required or preferred.
• ARDMS registry preferred as a credential.
• Current BLS required; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct noninvasive cardiac ultrasound procedures to assess heart structure and function.
• Acquire high-quality diagnostic images per lab protocols.
• Document data in EMR and educate patients.
• Support the physician with procedure coordination and patient care.

Position Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer will perform noninvasive cardiac ultrasound procedures to evaluate the structure and function of the heart. These procedures are performed in a manner consistent with Virginia Heart’s mission of providing excellence in cardiovascular care.

Responsibilities

• Assesses and interview patients scheduled for echocardiography procedures to confirm order and determine indications and appropriateness of the procedure.
• Acquires high quality diagnostic images and data according to established laboratory protocols.
• Acquires and analyzes data obtained from the following ultrasound procedures:
  • Resting Transthoracic Echocardiogram
  • Resting Transthoracic Echocardiogram with Agitated Saline Contrast
  • Resting Transthoracic Echocardiogram with Left Ventricular Opacification Contrast
  • Stress Echocardiogram
  • Stress Echocardiogram with Left Ventricular Opacification Contrast
• Authorizes prescription refills under direct supervision of the physician.
• Enters data in the EMR.
• Provides patient education.
• Other activities and responsibilities as directed.

Requirements

• Associates degree preferred
• Successful completion of a cardiac sonography program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT) and the Joint Review Committee in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS)
• ARDMS registry preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Computer literate; prior experience with the use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred
• Prior experience in a clinical position; cardiology field preferred
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal and patient care skills
