Cardiac Sonographer

Position Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Uses basic computer skills effectively for documentation and reporting.
  • Works independently and collaboratively within the clinical team.
  • Trains and mentors echocardiography students as needed.
  • Accurately performs job duties demonstrating competency in echocardiography procedures and cardiac imaging protocols.
  • Adheres to safety and compliance standards when operating ultrasound and related diagnostic equipment.
  • Performs routine care and basic maintenance of echocardiography equipment; reports malfunctions promptly.
  • Collects, organizes, and submits echocardiogram data and patient imaging results for physician interpretation and department reporting needs.
  • Anticipates patient and procedural needs and provides recommendations or feedback on workflow improvements.
  • Monitors progress of assigned echocardiography tasks through completion and provides outcome updates as needed.
  • Verifies image accuracy, measurements, and documentation before submitting studies for physician review.
  • Reports any clinical or safety incidents to the supervisor and Risk Management within required timeframes per policy.
  • Follows National Patient Safety Goals, including:
    • Accurate patient identification.
    • Effective communication among caregivers.
    • Safe use and documentation of medications when applicable to testing procedures.
    • Adherence to infection prevention standards for equipment and patient contact.
  • Complies with all hospital safety and security policies.
  • Performs other cardiac sonography–related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a hospital approved ultrasound program with emphasis in adult echocardiography.
  • RDCS or RCS credentials required.
  • Experience in adult and transesophageal echocardiography. Knowledge of stress and contrast echocardiography.
