Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, seeks a Staff Nurse (RN) in Division 2100 to provide direct patient care in a fast-paced cardiology unit in Missouri. The RN will support licensed professionals, assess patients, and document care while maintaining patient safety and high-quality standards.

Role requires BLS and ACLS within 1 year, with a preference for CNA/Nurse Assistant, EMT, or Surgical Tech experience. Night shifts 7pm-7:30am, weekends and holidays apply. Benefits eligible.

Qualifications

• BLS certification is required; ACLS within 1 year of start.
• CNA/Nurse Assistant or EMT experience preferred.
• Strong assessment and documentation skills desired.

Responsibilities

• Administers or assists with Activities of Daily Living as directed.
• Measures and records vital signs and patient information.
• Documents care using proper medical terminology and reports changes to the nurse.
• Acts as 1:1 safety sitter when needed and ensures supplies are available.
• Participates in patient safety and quality initiatives.

Division 2100 is a fast paced high risk cardiology division at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. We care for a variety of cardiology patients including congestive heart failure, left ventricular assist devices, post cardiac device implantation, post EP and Stent procedures. The Staff Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the patient care team using critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to continually assess the patients' status. The Staff Nurse (RN) must be certified in BLS and obtain ACLS certification within 1 year of working on the division.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Responsibilities

• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
