Additional Information About the Role

This unit offers opportunities to care for patients with acute conditions, titrate high-risk drips, and provide care for patients requiring continuous telemetry. Our registered nurses receive specialized training, including ECG, acute care, LVAD, and ACLS certification.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is Missouri's largest hospital and ranked among the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. It is a Magnet-recognized hospital with a staff comprising academic faculty, community physicians, residents, interns, and fellows. Division 2100 is a high-risk cardiology unit caring for patients with conditions like heart failure, LVADs, post-device implantation, and post-procedures. The Staff Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in patient care, utilizing critical thinking and clinical expertise. Certification in BLS is required, and ACLS must be obtained within one year.

Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, following nursing standards.

Responsibilities
  • Promote patient and family-centered care, educate on illness management, post-treatment care, and medication administration.
  • Participate in activities that ensure patient safety, quality, and compliance, and engage in professional development.
  • Develop, implement, and document care plans with clear goals, collaborating with the healthcare team, patient, and family, ensuring communication across care continuum.
  • Assess physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs, considering patient preferences, values, and cultural factors.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; alertness and safe work practices are essential.
Minimum Requirements

Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing

Experience: No experience required

Licenses & Certifications: RN license

Preferred Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Experience: Less than 2 years
