Additional Information About the Role

This unit offers the opportunity to care for patients with acute conditions, titrate high-risk drips, and provide care for patients requiring continuous telemetry. Our registered nurses receive specialized training, including ECG, acute care, LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device), and ACLS certification.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is Missouri's largest hospital and ranked among the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. It is recognized as a Magnet Hospital for nursing excellence.

Division 2100 is a fast-paced, high-risk cardiology division caring for patients with conditions such as congestive heart failure, LVADs, post-cardiac device implantation, and post-procedure care. The Staff Nurse (RN) plays a vital role, using critical thinking and clinical expertise to assess patient status. Certification in BLS is required, and ACLS must be obtained within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose: Provides direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within nursing standards.

Responsibilities
  • Promote patient and family-centered care, educating on illness management and post-treatment needs.
  • Participate in activities that ensure patient safety, quality, and compliance, and engage in professional development.
  • Develop, implement, and document individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team, patients, and families.
  • Assess physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs, considering patient values and barriers to involvement.
  • This position is safety-sensitive; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness is essential.

Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate's Degree

Experience: No experience required

Licenses & Certifications: RN license
