Job summary

Tampa General Hospital in Florida seeks a Telemetry Technician to monitor and identify basic rhythm changes, report findings, and document rhythm strips in accordance with policy. The role supports patient monitoring, performs 12-lead EKGs, and maintains telemetry equipment between uses according to vendor guidelines.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED and BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross, plus basic EKG training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Basic EKG class and competency demonstrated through testing.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interprets changes in rhythms.
• Records rhythm strips as required.
• Demonstrates arrhythmia recognition skills.
• Communicates lethal arrhythmias to nursing staff and documents strips as requested.
• Maintains alarms on at all times with rates set safely to minimize false alarms.
• Identifies individual EKGs with proper patient identifiers.
• Works with the computer system to maintain ER flow and facilitates transfers, admissions and discharges timely.
• Answers telephone and intercom in a pleasant and professional manner and relays messages accurately and quickly.
• Reports any malfunction of monitoring equipment to the Biomedical Technicians, Charge Nurse, and Nursing Director.

Under general supervision, follows established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines. Responsible for monitoring and identifying basic normal cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias, and lethal arrhythmias; reporting these findings to the appropriate personnel, and rhythm documentation and labeling per TGH policy. Promotes and maintains patient support including but not limited to: interprets and post rhythm strips and protocol, performs 12 lead EKGs. Maintain and clean portable telemetry monitors between patient use according to manufacturer's guidelines.
