Tampa General Hospital, Inc. in Florida is seeking a Telemetry/EKG Technician to monitor patient rhythms, perform 12-lead EKGs, and support rapid response through accurate rhythm labeling.

Under general supervision, you will interpret rhythm strips, document findings, maintain alarms, and coordinate with nursing and Biomedical Technicians to ensure patient safety and efficient ER flow.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross.
• Basic EKG class and competency demonstrated by testing.

Responsibilities

• Interpret rhythm changes accurately.
• Record rhythm strips as required and maintain labeling.
• Demonstrate arrhythmia recognition skills.
• Communicate lethal arrhythmias to nursing staff and document strips.
• Maintain alarms at all times with safe rate settings.
• Identify patient rhythms with correct identifiers.
• Coordinate flow with ER, transfers, admissions and discharges.
• Answer calls professionally and relay messages quickly.
• Report equipment malfunctions to Biomedical Technicians and leadership.

Description

Under general supervision, follows established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines. Responsible for monitoring and identifying basic normal cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias, and lethal arrhythmias; reporting these findings to the appropriate personnel, and rhythm documentation and labeling per TGH policy. Promotes and maintains patient support including but not limited to: interprets and post rhythm strips and protocol, performs 12 lead EKGs. Maintain and clean portable telemetry monitors between patient use according to manufacturer's guidelines.

Essential Functions

• Accurately interprets changes in rhythms.
• Records rhythm strips as required.
• Demonstrates arrhythmia recognition skills.
• Communicates lethal arrhythmias to nursing staff and documents strips as requested.
• Maintains alarms on at all times with rates set safely to minimize false alarms.
• Identifies individual EKGs with proper patient identifiers.
• Works with the computer system, including Maintains flow through the ER and facilitatetransfers, admissions and discharges timely.
• Answers telephone and intercom in a pleasant and professional manner and relays messageaccurately and quickly.
• Reports any malfunction of monitoring equipment to the Biomedical Technicians, ChargeNurse, and Nursing Director
