Job summary

Advocate Health's Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) seeks an experienced Cardiac ICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) — NP or PA — to join a high-acuity, multidisciplinary team in Charlotte, NC. The role focuses on managing cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, and post-MI complications with temporary mechanical circulatory support including ECMO, Impella, and IABP.

The APP will collaborate with cardiology, cardiac surgery, critical care, and ancillary services while providing education

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) required.
• Active, unrestricted NP or PA license in NC.
• National certification (ACNP, AGACNP, or NCCPA) required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification; CCRN/CSC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of critically ill cardiac patients.
• Manage patients with acute decompensated heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and post-MI complications.
• Oversee temporary mechanical circulatory support devices (ECMO, Impella, IABP, VAD) under protocols.
• Collaborate with attending cardiologists, intensivists, cardiac surgeons, and care team to optimize outcomes.
• Provide monitoring, titration, and weaning of vasoactive meds, inotropes, and mechanical support.
• Coordinate patient transitions between levels of care and transfers to tertiary facilities.
• Work with nursing, pharmacists, PTs, nutritionists, and other team members.
• Participate in quality improvement, protocol development, and research in cardiac critical care.
