Job summary

Wellstar Health System is seeking a CVOR First Assist to work with a cardiac surgical team. The role supports surgeons, maintains sterile technique, and ensures patient safety in complex procedures. Applicants should have strong clinical skills, teamwork, and flexibility to cover variable shifts.

Qualifications include education in a first assistant program per CAAHEP, at least a high school diploma or GED, and Basic Life Support. Prior OR experience in cardiovascular surgery is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Graduate of an approved first assistant program as outlined by CAAHEP.
• 2+ years surgical scrub experience preferred and
• Prior Cardiovascular Operating Room experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support required.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon and maintain sterile field during procedures.
• Prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment; ensure readiness for case.
• Drape patient and position; assist with lines, drains, and suction as directed.
• Maintain patient safety and infection control throughout procedures.
• Participate in room turnover and cleanup between cases.
• Respond to emergencies with calm, decisive action and teamwork.
