Job summary

Wayne UNC Health Care seeks a Cardiac Cath Technologist to perform radiologic procedures and assist physicians in image-guided vascular interventions. This role requires certification as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist and ARRT registration with VI preferred, plus BLS.

• Licensure to practice as a Registered Radiologic Technologist in North Carolina.
• ARRT registration required; VI Radiography certification preferred. BLS certification required.
• Minimum one year experience as a Registered Diagnostic Technologist.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic, special, and radiographic procedures.
• Assists in invasive procedures including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, and recording hemodynamic data.
• Prepares patients, confirms consents, and administers contrast media per orders including IV therapy.
• Operates radiology equipment and transfers images to PACS; checks image quality and patient identification.
• Maintains and restocks rooms; ensures timely patient flow and documentation accuracy.
• Participates in quality management programs and staff training; supports department leadership.

Summary:

The Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures for the application of prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological assessment, diagnosis and therapy. Works under the direction of a radiologist. Assists physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided vascular procedures, including angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, and others to capture images of blood vessels and treat organ-system diseases.

Responsibilities:

1.Performs diagnostic, special and radiographic procedures.

2.Assists in all aspects of invasive procedures, including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring and recording hemodynamic parameters in accordance to policy and procedure.

3.Prepares patient for exams. Confirms that pertinent forms (i.e., consents) are complete for procedures.

4.Administers contrast media according to provider orders. Demonstrates knowledge of IV therapy techniques (i.e., verifies type, concentration, amount and expiration date).

5.Operates all equipment/devices as appropriate including but not limited to radiology equipment and related to the transfer of images to the PACS system, checking image quality and proper identification.

6.Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician.

7.Takes appropriate precautions to minimize radiation exposure to patient.

8.Ensures documentation is complete and accurate in all systems. Monitors and records all procedural data.

9.Performs QC tech functions as requested.

10.Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating quality management programs for Special Procedures and Diagnostic Radiology.

11.Demonstrates equipment and procedure competency during call-back procedure.

12.Maintains, cleans, and restocks assigned room and notifies supervisor of unavailable supplies.

13.Works at such a pace and demonstrates organizational skills as to ensure no backlogs of work or undue delays in patient flow.

14.Operates equipment and technology safely and properly. Reports problems or malfunctions to supervisor.

15.Demonstrates a willingness to assist wherever needed. Has an understanding that shifts may have to be altered due to workload or staffing at supervisor’s discretion.

16.Assists the Diagnostic Supervisor with instruction of new teammates.

17.Assists the clinical instructor with instruction of student technologists.

18.Is available and flexible to take call as required to ensure coverage for the area.

19.Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements.

20.Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.

21.Participates in performance improvement activities.

22.Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems.

Education Requirements:

• Completion of two years of formal Radiologic Technology training in a school approved by the Council of Education of the American Medical Association.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
• Registration by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) required. Vascular-Interventional (VI) Radiography certification preferred. BLS certification required.

Professional Experience Requirements:

• Minimum one year experience as a Registered Diagnostic Technologist required.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

• Demonstrated knowledge of Radiology Special Procedures equipment, special procedure examinations and specific supplies used.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Radiology Special Procedure equipment, examination protocols and specific supplies.
• Ability to work independently.
