Responsibilities

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality healthcare to the community since 1917. The hospital is ranked among the top in South Carolina for treating heart attack, heart failure, stroke, and coronary artery disease.

The Cardiac Catherization Tech assists Technologists, Technicians, and Physicians in performing radiologic, paramedical, hemodynamic, therapeutic, and clerical duties, including billing, supply management, and equipment maintenance.

Duties

  • Administer medications used in the Cardiovascular Lab under physician supervision.
  • Perform routine procedures following established protocols.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures, wearing protective gear during x-ray exposure.
  • Monitor procedures with specialized equipment as per protocols.
  • Assist physicians in emergency situations, demonstrating accuracy and timeliness.
  • Use accessories to improve image quality.
  • Monitor patient hemodynamics, recognize changes, and implement interventions.
  • Recognize EKG changes and respond accordingly.
  • Function as a Scrub Tech during procedures, maintaining sterile and infection control standards.
  • Handle catheter and sheath removal, monitor homeostasis, and understand observation procedures.
  • Assist in documentation, supply management, and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Transport patients safely, ensuring proper coverage and ongoing assessment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and staff, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Provide patient education and assist with positioning and comfort.
  • Ensure all charges are properly documented and processed.
  • Prepare rooms, equipment, and contrast media for procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked work environment, testing equipment regularly.
  • Perform sponge counts as required.
  • Respond promptly to on-call requests and attend mandatory training and meetings.

Qualifications

Requirements include:

  • Registered CVT, CIS, or RT; BCLS and ACLS certifications (ACLS within one year)
  • Ability to perform under stress independently
  • Licensure by LLR or SCRQS
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork ability
