Job summary

Trinityhealth in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a part-time Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse to assess, plan and deliver bedside nursing care for patients of diverse ages. You’ll ensure patient comfort, practice aseptic techniques, monitor equipment, and support diagnostic and interventional procedures from angiography through ablation and pacing.

You’ll also assist physicians and triage staff in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (IV pumps, monitoring equipment, drainage devices).
• Uses IV pump libraries and monitor alarms to maximize safety.
• Initiates emergency measures (CPR) when needed.
• Documents procedures in the patient medical record per requirements.
• Cares for patients during Cardiac Cath Lab procedures (angiography, PTCA, stents, catheterizations).
• Maintains readiness of procedure room equipment and passes supplies to the physician/student.
• Transports patients to/from procedure rooms.
• Assists with manual hemostasis after puncture when required.
• Serves in charge/leadership roles as needed and triages patients.
• Assists with quality control and clerical duties as requested.
• Provides orientation/education for staff, students, and community organizations.

Description

• Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care for patients of diverse ages while ensuring patient comfort.
• Practices safe patient handling techniques and is proficient with aseptic techniques.
• Continues to evaluate assigned patients and provides ongoing treatment.
• Anticipates, identifies, and responds to educational and emotional needs of patients and families.
• Guides and directs healthcare personnel (i.e. Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices). Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms whenever available to maximize patient safety.
• Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
• Utilizes hospital information system to process orders/data and retrieve patient information. Documents procedures in patient medical record. Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients' records.
• Cares for patients during Cardiac Cath Lab procedures which include, but are not limited to, coronary angiography, PTCA, stents, pediatric and adult heart catheterizations, peripheral PTA, EPS, Ablation, PPM, ICD, Valvuloplasty, and laser procedures
• Maintains readiness of equipment in procedure rooms. Acquires supplies needed for procedures and passes to physician or assistant maintaining sterile technique. Assists in maintaining inventory control.
• Transports patients to and from procedure rooms.
• May apply manual pressure to puncture site to obtain hemostasis following procedure.
• Serves in a charge/leadership role based on skill and unit needs. When assigned charge, makes patient assignments; triages patients; and problem solves with staff, physicians, patients, families, and ancillary departments.
• Assists in quality control.
• Takes assigned call as defined in unit specific policy manual.
• Assists with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene).
• Assists with clerical duties (i.e., maintenance of chart, patient record, and answering phones and call lights).
• Provides orientation/education for staff, students, and other hospital and community organizations as requested.
