Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Procedural Registered Nurse II to coordinate and deliver patient care in the Cath Lab or interventional radiology care settings. The role involves moderate sedation, hemodynamic monitoring, temporary pacing, cardioversion/defibrillation, and pump support setup.

Qualified applicants will have 5 years Cath Lab RN experience, NC or compact license, and BLS/ACLS certifications. The position is onsite and full-time at Pardee UNC Health Care.

Qualifications

• 5 years of cath lab RN experience; circulator and monitoring roles.
• Experience caring for STEMI patients, with or without cardiogenic shock.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required by start date.

Responsibilities

• Administers patient care under physician direction; set up intra-aortic balloon pump and assist with impella if needed.
• Performs hemodynamic monitoring and temporary pacing; supports complex cath lab procedures.
• Mentors junior nurses and promotes clinical skill development within the team.
• Maintains a safe, clean hospital environment following infection control standards.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan discharge and care priorities.

Summary:
Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Procedural Registered Nurse II (RN) is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a range of settings focused on cardiovascular catheterization laboratory ("Cath Lab") or interventional radiological care. The Procedural RN will perform a range of clinical tasks including moderate sedation, hemodynamic monitoring, temporary pacing, cardioversion/defibrillation, and medication administration, including drips. The Procedural RN will also be responsible for setup and initiation of intra-aortic balloon pump support. Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Administers patient care under the direction of a physician. Sets up and initiates intra-aortic balloon pump support. May assist with setup of impella devices. Sets up and initiates hemodynamic support and temporary pacing.
• Identifies and pursues expected patient outcomes in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. Performs a range of clinical tasks that may include moderate sedation, monitoring of hemodynamics and temporary pacing, cardioversion/defibrillation, and medication administration, including drips.
• Support less experienced registered nurses in both the administration of complex care, and development of team's clinical skillset to encompass more complex care and procedures. Mentor junior nurses to develop competence, confidence, and understanding of the larger system of care.
• Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures.
• Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs. Consults with appropriate resources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex care issues, unusual teaching needs and/or those at high risk for discharge planning.
• Collaborates with peers in a clinical operations environment, including fostering intra/interdepartmental communication.
• Synthesizes data in complex situations to determine priorities for care, including appropriate physical, psychosocial, education and safety needs. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.
• Communicates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care using cultural competency and active listening. Develops relationships with patients and their families that promote their ability to advocate for patient and family needs.
• Develops clinical and operational excellence in self and in peers through education and training.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

• Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states required by first date of clinical care
• Five (5) years of experience working in a catheterization (Cath Lab) setting in a Registered Nurse (RN) role. Must have experience performing the circulator and monitoring role in a cath lab setting.
• Experience caring for patients with ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) with or without cardiogenic shock.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification required by first date of clinical care
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required by first date of clinical care

PREFERRED

• Experience working in critical or emergency care in a Registered Nurse (RN) role
• Seven (7) years of experience working in an acute care setting in a Registered Nurse (RN) role
