Required Skills/Experience:Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a cath/EP lab. Must be able to scrub for all types of heart caths, peripheral vascular, structural heart, and EP procedures.
Required Credentials:High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Graduate of an accredited program in Allied Health Sciences (e.g., Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Exercise Science, or Cardiac or Vascular Sonography, or equivalent academic program and experience.) Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Radiology Technologist (ARRT) with Cardiac Interventional (CI) or Vascular Interventional (VI). Valid BCLS certification required/ACLS certification required within six (6) months of hire.
Shift & Scheduling:Weekday coverage is 6:30a–5p, with one variable weekday off per week.On-call required: 1 weekend per month (5p Friday–6:30a Monday) and 4 weeknights per month (5p–6:30a next day). No weekend commitment outside of on-call.
Unit Details:The role involves cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology.The role includes recognizing ECG waveform morphology and wave patterns and their significance, including lethal arrhythmias; recognizing and interpreting ECG changes occurring in heart chamber enlargement and myocardial infarctions; and responding appropriately.The role intervenes appropriately during and after lethal arrhythmias using ACLS standards if warranted.The role includes understanding cardiac medications (generic and trade names), their pharmacokinetic actions related to cardiac and vascular functions, and documenting medication indications and dosages.The role includes recognizing and alerting physicians to abnormalities in arterial blood gases, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, and creatinine.The role monitors diagnostic cardiac catheterization and percutaneous interventions, including PTCA, directional and mechanical rotational atherectomy.The role identifies coronary anatomy in cine angiographic projections and cardiac pressure waveforms, calculates basic hemodynamic parameters using the recording computer, and records catheterization events in the database computer.The role sets up the necessary supplies and a table for diagnostic cardiac catheterization, monitors patients safely during the procedure, and performs cardiac outputs, O2 saturations, and ACT measurements.The role includes understanding the indications and potential complications of thrombolytic therapy for acute MI.The role uses extraction devices such as AngioJet, Rotablator, and laser revascularization devices.The role includes electrophysiologic testing, permanent pacemaker implant, therapeutic ablation of dysrhythmias, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator procedures.The lab uses intravascular ultrasound and Doppler velocimetry technologies.The role uses the Cath Lab fluoroscopy system and its necessary components to provide the physician with appropriate procedural visibility.The role assists with orientation and training of Cath Lab staff and may include special projects and relevant committee participation.The unit uses the Merge Hemo documentation system; knowledge is preferred.
