Job description

Are you ready to join Connecticut Innovation’s vibrant community of innovators? Connecticut Innovations (“CI”) is Connecticut’s strategic venture capital arm, and we are passionate about serving our portfolio of 220+ companies across various industries, with strengths in life sciences, technology, and climate tech.

Come join one of our quickly growing portfolio companies, Home | CREW Carbon!

CREW Carbon Overview

We are a venture-backed, early-stage company developed at Yale University, commercializing research conducted by Prof. Noah Planavsky and Dr. Joachim Katchinoff to utilize key biogeochemical reactions to make positive climate impact while making wastewater treatment more effective. We use our patented technology to enhance the natural power of minerals to help treat wastewater and store carbon dioxide permanently using a low-cost solution combined with best-in-class monitoring and modeling for the robust quantification of CO2 removed. Our approach can provide millions of dollars in chemical cost savings, new revenue streams, and significant climate impact to the wastewater sector. CREW is currently deployed in the US and Germany, with new projects launching across the world.

We are funded by Counteract, ReGen, Ponderosa, Connecticut Innovations and others. We've secured large contracts with the premier buyers of carbon credits through the Frontier Climate Fund (Stripe, Shopify, Autodesk, McKinsey, among others) and have been selected by the Department of Energy as one of the few potential suppliers of high-quality carbon credits to the federal government.

About The Role

As the Carbon Program Manager, you will sit at the intersection of science, market engagement, and project execution, ensuring our carbon removal projects are rigorously validated, transparently credited, and effectively sold. You will play a key role driving excellence in measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) strategy and application. You will be responsible for leading the MRV program within CREW, quarterbacking new buyer application processes, and forging partnerships with external verifiers, protocol developers, registries, and carbon credit buyers.

Your work will help to continue positioning CREW Carbon as a leader in the carbon removal industry, expanding our reach and impact. This is an ideal opportunity for a detail-oriented, mission-driven operator with experience in carbon markets, MRV, and climate tech project development.

This position is a full-time role. Location can be remote, with a preference for onsite at our office in Brooklyn or our office in New Haven.

MRV Program Lead:

  • Lead development, coordination, and implementation of MRV strategies for CREW Carbon projects.
  • Collaborate with our Science and Engineering teams to ensure MRV methodologies are scientifically rigorous and aligned with industry protocols and verification requirements.
  • Lead end-to-end project validation and verification processes with independent third parties, including coordination and attendance at onsite visits.
  • Work with Operations, Science and Finance teams to optimize credit delivery schedules.

Protocol Champion:

  • Drive the development and refinement of CDR protocols tailored to wastewater mineralization, in collaboration with key registries and standards bodies (e.g., Isometric).
  • Represent CREW Carbon in technical working groups and engage with protocol developers and verifier organizations.
  • Monitor evolving standards, methodologies, and regulatory guidance in carbon markets to inform internal strategy.

Carbon Credit Sales & Offtake Applications:

  • Lead the end-to-end process of applying to CDR buyer programs and carbon marketplaces, managing initial RFI through successful onboarding.
  • Collaborate with commercial and leadership teams to pitch new buyers and manage deal execution against our carbon credit sales strategy.
  • Track offtake pipeline and coordinate reporting and delivery of credits with buyers.

Experience Requirements

  • Strong background in climate science, geochemistry, oceanography, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in carbon markets, carbon credits, and climate strategy.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • In-depth understanding of global greenhouse gas protocols.
  • In-depth knowledge about science-based carbon reduction methodologies (SBTi).
  • Deep understanding of Life Cycle Assessment Methodologies for technology products with respect to carbon footprint.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing startup environment where priorities can shift on a monthly basis.
  • You practice extreme ownership (no task is too small).
  • You love being in the trenches with your team and working with high empathy.
  • You have a growth mindset.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is competitive and will depend on many factors including experience, education, and expertise. We offer a competitive benefits package with insurance, vacation, retirement, and equity options.
