ULTX offers competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, along with the opportunity to be a part of a collaborative, safety-focused team that values enthusiasm, craftsmanship, professional growth and continuous improvement Position Summary: The Car Repairman is responsible for performing welding and mechanical repairs on tank cars, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and quality while following established procedures and working in a physically demanding industrial environment. .**Primary Responsibilities:**Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:* Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.* Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.* Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter.* Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.* Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.* Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.**Required Qualifications:*** High School Diploma or equivalent, or ability to pass a Combined Basic Skills Assessment Test* Must pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the company* Demonstrated mechanical aptitude* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision* Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly documents* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.* Ability to work any shift, including overtime, as permitted by the union contract* Dependable attendance and reliability**Preferred Qualifications:*** Welding certifications* Experience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment.* Rail industry experience* Valve and fittings experience* Tank car knowledge or experience**Work Environment & Schedule:*** Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environment involves regular exposure to challenging physically demanding and environmental conditions.* Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions* Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is common* Job requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces* Must be able to enter tank cars through 20‐inch manway openings* Manual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operation* Potential exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spills* Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols* Vision correctable to 20/30 for inspection tasks* On-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required.**Disclaimer:**Please note the duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
