Job summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervises directs, and coordinates the functions and operations during an assigned shift associated with protecting life and property, responding to the needs of the general public, deterring criminal activity within the community, enforcing all county statutes, ordinances, and the laws and regulations of state and federal government, and performing investigations, special details, and specific assignments. Reports to the Major of Safety and Security.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; processes employee concerns and problems; directs work, counsels, mentors, and completes employee performance appraisals.

Directs and supervises, either personally or through subordinate supervisors, daily activities of an assigned shift; coordinates and delegates investigations, patrols, special assignments, or other shift tasks

Performs administrative tasks/functions specific to assigned unit or division; assigns personnel; approves time; adjusts schedule, staffing, and/or authorizes overtime to ensure adequate manpower at all times; ensures proper allocation of personnel and other resources.

Assists with planning and coordination of training; schedules in-service training for subordinates; may provide cultural diversity training.

Assists with preparation of long range management plan; prepares action plans for crime reduction; coordinates multi-zone assistance for unusual problems; ensures the safety of officers.

Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Business or Public Administration or a closely related field is required; Master’s Degree preferred.

Ten (10) years of successful law enforcement experience with a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or management experience required.

Makes decisions that usually affect the assigned department and many times affect outside assigned departments.

Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) certification required; Peace Officers certification in good standing without any open, pending, or current investigations required. Valid Georgia driver’s license and other licenses depending upon federal, state, and local requirements are required. Supervisory and Management Certifications preferred.

Varied: Supervisor is available on an “as‑needed” basis to establish general objectives; independent judgment is required.

Requires regular contact with departmental and District persons of various authority and of high importance.

Responsible for supervising/making recommendations within the department. Development of programs and policies as needed.

Applies recommends and implements highly advanced technology concepts to improve organization-wide efficiency and effectiveness or has final approval of technology applications to be used throughout CCPS.

Responsibility for the Welfare of Others:Constant (Daily) - to exercise the duty of care and protection of the health, safety, security, welfare, well‑being, and best interests of the district's various stakeholders.

Requires extensive safety training, conflict resolution, escalation concepts, and/or protective devices.

May occasionally come in contact with individuals with criminal or malicious intent.

Typically sitting at a desk or table, intermittently sitting, standing, and stopping. Requires repeated reaching by extending hands(s) and/or arms(s) in any direction. Frequently requires travel to district schools and departments. Intermittent walking is required.

Using equipment requiring high dexterity. Requires good hearing. Requires near or distant vision. Requires distinguishing colors and/or depth perception to judge distances. Must be able to lift and/or carry weight of fifty to one hundred pounds.

NOTE:This is a Grade 28, 225‑day position with a salary range of $69,984.00 - $108,208. Final salary placement within this range is determined based on individual credentials, years of relevant experience, and the guidelines outlined in the CCPS Compensation Handbook found here .
