Qualifications

Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Ensure crew welfare and training in safety, firefighting, search and rescue.
  2. Ensure safe navigation of the vessel at all times.
  3. Conduct drills, training, safety meetings, and maintain records as per company policy.
  4. Maintain vessel compliance with safety standards and maritime regulations.
  5. Inspect vessel to ensure safety standards and regulations are met.
  6. Work with customers, pilots, and government agencies for proper vessel operation.
  7. Report equipment failures, incidents, and damages promptly and accurately.
  8. Stay updated on maritime laws.
  9. Supervise crew in safe and efficient vessel operation.
  10. Hold crew accountable for adherence to laws, policies, and performance standards.
  11. Evaluate crew members and take necessary actions.
  12. Implement company policies and maritime industry standards to ensure safety.
  13. Safely navigate the vessel during operations, including pushing, pulling, docking, and unloading.
  14. Monitor water depth, weather, traffic, and other conditions.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must hold and maintain a Master 200 OC or NC license, Master of Towing, STCW, Radar Endorsement, MMC, and TWIC.
  • Experience operating a conventional twin-screw tug.
  • Valid USCG Merchant Mariner Credential, STCW, HAZWOPER, and PIC (preferred).
  • Valid TWIC card and state driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States.
Experience and Skills
  • At least 2 years' experience as a Master or Operating Mate on towing vessels.
  • Marine operations background, familiarity with shipyards, tugs, and oil barges (preferred).
  • Knowledge of maritime law and current updates.
  • Proficiency with equipment suitable for the job.
Working Conditions
  • Lodging and provisions provided on the vessel.
  • Physical fitness to climb aboard tugs and barges, ascend/descend ladders, and maintain balance in rough conditions.
  • Comfort with heights and narrow walkways.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts daily.
  • Exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind).
  • Year-round, on-call work.
