Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory training lead to plan, develop, and oversee branch training programs. You’ll manage staff, coordinate with internal divisions and external agencies, and ensure training compliance across multiple modules including firearms, defensive tactics, and first aid/CPR.

Applicants must hold a high school diploma with supervisory experience; a related bachelor's degree can substitute.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and supervisory experience.
• A bachelor's degree may substitute for supervisory experience.
• Six years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with two years supervisory.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months of entry.
• Must acquire CDL within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, implement and conduct supervisory training.
• Research, evaluate and present branch budget needs.
• Devise, coordinate and implement training plan for branch yearly.
• Manage staff including administrative & disciplinary actions as directed.
• Establish/maintain/coordinate with institutions and agencies regarding training needs.
• Supervise Admin. Lt., EPMS and position descriptions implementation.
• Audit and document training to ensure compliance.
• Screen and interview candidates for vacancies.
• Hold staff meetings to disseminate information and training aids.
• Monitor CLEE certifications and notify necessary parties.
• Process CLEE extensions and exceptions to mandatory training.
• Perform other duties and staff functions as assigned.
• Assist with in-service training and supervisory classes, firearms/defensive tactics/first aid CPR instruction when needed.
• Forecast branch budget needs for training aids and equipment.
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods, lift 40 lbs, and complete a physical agility assessment.
• Must maintain performance standards for all T4Ts (various trainings).
• Complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
