Job Responsibilities

1. Schedules, directs, and manages the employment and duty activities of a security shift engaged in the security operations of a level three facility.
2. Supervises, inspects, and ensures proper perimeter and internal security and control measures are in effect and enforced.
3. Prepares, submits, and monitors reports required by the chain of command and policy.
4. Directs and redirects security resources for optimum security and safety.
5. Ensures that institutional buildings and state property are properly secured.
6. Trains, develops, instructs, evaluates, and counsels subordinates to ensure duty performance is in accordance with state laws and agency policies.
7. Ensures the proper control, issues, and use of weapons, keys, security devices, and agency equipment.
8. Inspects all posts where shift employees are deployed. Interviews and counsels inmates as necessary to ensure maximum safety and security.

Additional Requirements

Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum Requirements

State of South Carolina:

A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• Six (6) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 years).
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
