Job Responsibilities

1. Directs and supervises the day-to-day operations and activities of the uniformed staff and inmates.
2. Ensures the security and safety of all staff, inmates, and visitors.
3. Under minimum supervision and guided by written policies and procedures, allocates officers and other resources to various duty shifts and functional areas.
4. Coordinates with institutional classification and treatment staff to ensure effective integration of all security and treatment operations and activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum Requirements

State of South Carolina

A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.

SCDC Specific Requirements

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources)

• Six (6) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis (associate and above = 2 years).
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of employment.
