NOW HIRING LATERAL TRANSFERS [EXPERIENCED LAW ENFORCEMENT (POST-CERTIFIED)] as well as new applicants
To protect and provide police services and general security at the State Capitol, annexes, properties contained therein, and adjacent state buildings, grounds, premises, and designated state properties against hazards such as trespass, theft, fire, and damage. Responsibilities include maintaining order, ensuring safety and security for the public, employees, and property, and performing related duties as required.
Received: Works under the supervision of a superior Rhode Island Capitol Police officer, receiving detailed instructions and having work reviewed for efficiency and methods.
Exercised: Usually none.
Knowledge of police tactics, patrolling, investigation, firearms, and emergency response. Ability to deal courteously with the public, keep records, analyze situations, and act effectively in emergencies.
High school diploma or GED; successful completion of the Rhode Island Capitol Police Training Academy.
Prior law enforcement training from recognized agencies, successful completion of fitness, background, psychiatric, firearms, medical, and other assessments. Less seniority than non-POST-certified officers if hired concurrently during academy periods.
Details on the 2024 recruitment process, physical fitness tests, and medical certificates are available on the Rhode Island Capitol Police website. Candidates must provide a recent Medical Fitness Certificate to participate in physical tests. Successful candidates will need to pass written and physical tests to proceed.
