Job summary

Amtrak in Washington, DC invites a Fall 2026/Spring 2027 Government & External Affairs Intern to learn and support the department's legislative strategy with Congress and federal departments. This paid internship offers exposure to public policy and transportation issues.

You'll assist with research, attend meetings on Capitol Hill, help prepare memos and testimony, and contribute to events while developing strong writing and analytical skills in a fast-paced government affairs team.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum GPA 2.8 or higher; junior status or equivalent and 2 years of undergraduate study completed.

Responsibilities

• Attend Capitol Hill meetings or meetings with outside groups with a staff member.
• Conduct research projects and data entry/analysis/visualization; help organize key data.
• Assist with writing memos and testimony; prepare documents for meetings and hearings.
• Support with events, travel coordination, and outreach activities.
• Engage in general department tasks and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
