Job summary

The Institute for the American Worker is seeking a Government Relations Coordinator in Washington, DC to manage scheduling, events, and logistics for advocacy activities with congressional offices, agencies, and partners.

The role supports internal operations, drafts follow-ups, maintains trackers, and assists with briefings and policy events, offering a path into government affairs and coalition outreach.

Qualifications

  • 1–4 years of professional experience (Capitol Hill/advocacy/nonprofit preferred).
  • Exceptional organizational and project-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and calendar management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule meetings for Government Relations with Members of Congress, staff, and partners.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, briefing packets, and follow-up materials.
  • Maintain records of meetings, outreach, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Draft follow-up communications and thank yous after meetings.
  • Maintain legislative trackers and congressional contact lists; track hearings and calendars.
  • Assist in drafting internal government relations reports and activity summaries.
  • Support planning and execution of Capitol Hill briefings, coalition meetings, and events.
  • Coordinate venue logistics, RSVPs, catering, materials, and on-site support.
  • Assist with presentation materials and policy collateral for events.
  • Coordinate speaker arrangements for Fellowship program.
  • Collaborate with communications and policy teams to align advocacy messaging.
  • Support outreach tied to reports, policy releases, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Provide admin/logistical support for Fellows, policy experts, and external speakers.
