SMBC seeks a Director to lead the ‘Capital Risk Calculation Analysis & Reporting Group’ within the Enterprise Risk Stripe of Risk Management Department Americas Division (RMDAD). The Director will manage 2 teams within the Capital Risk Calculation Analysis & Reporting Group: the ‘FRTB-SA (Fundamental Review of the Trading Book-Standardized Approach) Team’ and ‘Stress Testing Team.’ This position will report to the Head Team Lead (Executive Director) of Market Risk Reporting.

Role Responsibilities:
  1. Leads 2 Market Risk reporting teams while ensuring accurate, complete, and timely report submissions, including Market Risk capital calculations
  2. Drives enhancements to improve Market Risk capital aggregation and reporting processes
  3. Develops, implements, and maintains risk controls for Japan and U.S. FRTB-SA reporting processes
  4. Enhances CUSO Market Risk stress test processes and scenario generation capabilities
  5. Ensures compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and best practices, including BCBS 239 principles
  6. Prepares and presents risk committee meeting materials to internal stakeholders and regulators
  7. Provides regular status updates to senior management and escalates issues timely, as necessary
  8. Updates and ensures compliance with Market Risk reporting documents
  9. Manages ad-hoc projects as necessary
Qualifications and Skills
  1. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, business administration, or related field
  2. At least 5 years of experience in a Market Risk analysis and reporting role in the banking industry
  3. Preferred: Understanding of programming languages including SQL, Python, R, C++
  4. Proficient in VBA and visualization tools such as PowerBi and Powerpoint
  5. Familiarity with commonly used databases for data aggregation, including Microsoft SQL, MySQL, and Oracle
  6. Expert knowledge of Market Risk stress testing methodologies and stress scenarios
  7. Deep understanding of Basel 2.5 / Basel III Market Risk capital calculation methodologies and reporting requirements
  8. Strong knowledge of Market Risk reporting best practices as prescribed in BCBS 239 principles
  9. Solid understanding of financial products and their risks; including interest rate swaps, swaptions, caps/floors, corporate bonds, CDS, and Treasuries
  10. Ability to communicate appropriately at every level of the organization, including risk peers, business partners, technology teams, and senior management
  11. Strong organizational skills, with proven ability to successfully manage multiple, concurrent priorities
  12. Team player that demonstrates and promotes a positive team culture
