The Regional Transportation Safety Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Regional Transportation Safety Coordinator. The role involves providing quality administrative support on a part-time basis, 20-25 hours per week. Candidates must possess a high school diploma/GED. The assistant will receive on-the-job training and gain experience in transportation safety, focusing on areas such as impaired driving, distracted driving, occupant protection, young drivers, bike and pedestrian safety, and infrastructure & operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Essential duties are summaries of responsibilities, duties, and skills required for the role. They are not exhaustive, and similar or related tasks may be assigned.

General Job Responsibilities:

  1. Record, draft, and distribute meeting minutes for safety coalition meetings as approved by the Safety Coordinator.
  2. Create monthly newsletters for the safety coalition and other graphics using Canva and other platforms.
  3. Assist in maintaining records of safety planning documents, workshop literature, meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, grant reports, and other documents for accounting and auditing.
  4. Assist in writing, editing, and publishing press releases and newsletters to stakeholders, media, and the public about regional safety programs.
  5. Coordinate or assist partners in disseminating information via radio, TV, newspapers, and social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
  6. Research and review relevant literature, laws, regulations, attend conferences, workshops, and seminars for professional development.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES:

The candidate must operate basic office equipment, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and have graphics experience or the ability to learn. Good data entry skills and attention to detail are essential. Clerical duties such as scanning, copying, and faxing are also required.

Excellent communication and organizational skills are necessary. The candidate should manage time effectively with minimal oversight and communicate with high-level officials and stakeholders.

Reliable transportation is required for travel within the Capital Region parishes, including East and West Baton Rouge, East and West Feliciana, Ascension, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, and Iberville. Flexibility in schedule, with availability between 8 am and 3 pm, is needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position primarily involves working in a professional office setting and attending in-person outreach events.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 5-15 lbs.
  • Work under deadlines regularly.
  • Good vision, hearing, speaking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb, stand, and sit for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Willingness to learn and participate in events is required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

No formal certifications are required.

POSITION MEETING REQUIREMENTS:

Attendance at CRPC meetings may be required outside regular hours.
