Job summary

Sarasota County is seeking an experienced inspector to conduct on-site inspections of Capital Improvement Projects across water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and stormwater utilities and facilities in the Sarasota County area.

You will inspect construction activities for compliance with plans, codes, and contract requirements, monitor progress, and verify completion before payments. Excellent communication with engineers, contractors, residents, and county staff is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Four or more years of experience in utility construction work and/or inspection and testing of utility work.
• College or university-level training may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site inspections of Capital Improvement Projects for water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and stormwater utilities and treatment facilities.
• Inspect construction activities for compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, regulations, and contract requirements.
• Monitor project progress and verify construction is complete prior to final payment and County acceptance.
• Review construction plans, specifications, and material submittals to ensure compliance with applicable standards and contract requirements.
• Represent the Project Manager on assigned CIP projects and enforce contract documents.
• Communicate with engineers, contractors, project managers, property owners, residents, and County departments throughout project construction.
• Verify and monitor construction material quantities and compare installed quantities with pay application submittals.
• Verify approved Maintenance of Traffic plans are properly implemented at project sites.
• Investigate and respond to citizen complaints and neighborhood concerns related to assigned projects.
• Prepare inspection worksheets, daily activity reports, project files, and detailed documentation of project progress and issues.
