Salary Information
  • Grade I - $42.052 - $57.227 Hourly
  • Grade II - $44.201 - $60.202 Hourly
  • Grade III - $47.667 - $64.935 Hourly
  • Grade IV - $55.737 - $75.854 Hourly
Vacancy Information

Current vacancies exist in the Public Works, Harbor, and Long Beach Utilities Department. The Airport department is also a current user of this classification.

Examples of Duties

Under direction, plans and coordinates capital improvement projects in various departments; manages project budgets and schedules; monitors project progress and compliance; administers project and contract management systems; represents the City in meetings; facilitates risk assessments; prepares grant and permit applications; ensures projects conform to policies; leads or participates in consultant selection; administers contracts; assists in bidding and construction; makes presentations; and performs other related duties.

Requirements to File

Candidates must meet both A and B requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Public or Business Administration, or a related field (proof required).
  2. Three years of paid, professional experience related to capital improvement projects, including contract management and project controls.

Substitution of experience for education is possible on a year-for-year basis. Proof of education must be uploaded at application submission.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of project management practices for construction projects.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage multiple projects, establish relationships, operate software, communicate effectively, solve problems creatively, and organize efficiently.

Additional requirements include a valid driver's license, and for some positions, passing TSA background checks, TWIC, or other security clearances. Bilingual skills are desirable.

Selection Procedure

The process is non-competitive, based on training, experience, education, or certification. Applications received by April 18, 2025, will be placed on Test #01. Veteran’s credits are considered first. The process may be revised based on application volume.
