Position Summary
The Capital Projects Accountant is responsible for completing the day‑to‑day finance and accounting functions associated with capital project planning and administration. The role manages the capital projects workflow, ensures compliance with quality control and process standards, and supports operational workflow to minimize business disruption.
Scheduled Hours
40 hours per week.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Completes the day‑to‑day finance and accounting functions associated with the capital project planning and administration process, including identifying and establishing project funding sources, approving and tracking progress payments, billing earned project management fees, and completing reconciling and closing procedures for completed projects.
- Manages the capital projects workflow ensuring proper approvals and documentation are obtained and are in compliance with EPO and Washington University standards.
- Serves as the financial business partner to the Director, Capital Project Accounting, Major Projects, Project Manager and other stakeholders, participating in regular project review and forecast development meetings, developing documentation for leadership and committee approvals, and coordinating with customers, stakeholders, and departments to resolve issues.
- Prepares financial materials for project review meetings and reports, assisting leadership with managing project costs and establishing future revenue planning and forecasting models.
- Identifies and resolves issues in collaboration with business management, project stakeholders, and other university units for matters related to contracts, insurance, bonds, purchasing, and contractor pre‑qualifications.
- Assists in developing, coordinating, and presenting project training classes related to capital project planning and administration; updates process documentation, manuals, compliance, audit, and training materials; trains and supervises interns or other resources.
- Works with EPO leadership to recommend and implement efficiencies and standardize procedures for capital project administration.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 1 year relevant experience.
- Capital or Project Accounting experience of 4 years.
- Driver’s license not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a medical, research, or educational environment.

Grade & Salary
Grade: G10
Salary Range: $49,700.00 – $82,100.00 annually.
