Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services, Inc. is seeking a Capital Accountant responsible for managing all accounting and finance related functions for railroad capital projects. This includes cradle-to-grave accounting, budget management, and project documentation.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and 3-5 years of relevant experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GAAP knowledge is essential for succeeding in this role.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting or finance preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in construction/project management with accounting/finance is preferred.
  • Railroad or construction related experience strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Manage cradle-to-grave accounting for engineering, mechanical, and capital projects.
  • Prepare and document project authorization and approval.
  • Recommend and evaluate budget setups and reallocations.
  • Prepare weekly financial status reports and monitor cash flow.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure timely execution.
  • Provide support for month end reconciliations and accrual evaluations.
