Job summary

LyondellBasell is seeking a Capital Project Manager to lead a portfolio of capital projects across APS sites in the United States or Mexico. You will drive safety, reliability, and efficiency improvements through material handling and automation initiatives.

The role requires coordinating internal teams and external partners from concept through startup, with travel approximately 25% to APS locations. A PMP is preferred and a Bachelor’s in Engineering is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in manufacturing, engineering, or capital project execution.
• Experience managing multiple capital projects in an active manufacturing environment.
• Experience with material handling, warehousing, packaging, or logistics automation.
• PMP certification preferred.

• Manage a portfolio of capital projects across APS sites, from concept to startup and closeout.
• Develop and manage project scopes, estimates, schedules, budgets, risks, and execution plans.
• Deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with business objectives.
• Partner with site teams to implement automation solutions for operational needs.
• Coordinate operations, IT/OT, engineering partners, suppliers, contractors, and system integrators through design to site ownership.
• Lead project reviews, startup readiness activities, and stakeholder communications.

The Capital Project Manager leads a portfolio of capital projects across LyondellBasell's Advanced Polymer Solutions (APS) manufacturing sites. Projects support safety, reliability, capacity, manufacturing improvement, and automation objectives. A significant portion of the portfolio consists of material handling and logistics automation projects including material receiving, packaging, palletizing, warehousing, and related manufacturing systems. These projects improve safety, ergonomics, productivity, and fixed-cost performance. The successful candidate will manage projects from concept through startup, coordinating internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions.

Location: The preferred candidate will be based within reasonable proximity to one of our APS sites in the United States or Mexico.

A Day in the Life

• Manage a portfolio of capital projects across APS manufacturing sites, leading projects from concept development and funding approval through execution, startup, and closeout.
• Develop and manage project scopes, estimates, schedules, budgets, risks, and execution plans.
• Deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with business objectives.
• Partner with site teams to develop and implement automation solutions that support operational and business needs.
• Coordinate operations, IT/OT, engineering partners, suppliers, contractors, and system integrators through design, commissioning, startup, and transition to site ownership.
• Lead project reviews, startup readiness activities, and stakeholder communications throughout project execution.

This position requires approximately 25% travel to APS manufacturing sites and supplier locations.

You Bring This Value

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, or capital project execution
• Experience managing multiple capital projects simultaneously in an active manufacturing environment.
• Experience managing material handling, warehousing, packaging, logistics, or other manufacturing automation projects
• PMP certification preferred.

Technical & Project Management Expertise

• Knowledge of phased-gate project execution methodologies.
• Working knowledge of project controls, including estimating, forecasting, scheduling, risk management, and cost control.
• Experience managing equipment procurement, contractors, and construction activities.
• Familiarity with MOC processes, engineering standards, and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of SAP or similar enterprise systems.
• Knowledge of manufacturing automation technologies and system integration approaches.
• Understanding of warehouse and material handling automation systems, including WMS/WES/WCS interfaces, material flow logic, inventory transactions, and equipment handoffs.
