Job summary

The On-Board Engineering team in Concord, OH is seeking a Capital Project Manager to provide on-site project management and engineering coordination for capital improvement projects in a chemical/process facility.

The role involves establishing scopes, budgets, and schedules, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities, and supporting construction and commissioning, with an immediate priority on a temporary bulk storage and transfer system for IPA during an IPA column replacement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline preferred.
• 7+ years of project engineering and/or project management experience within chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, or other process manufacturing environments.
• Experience managing capital projects within an operating industrial facility.
• Experience with fire codes, regulatory requirements for industrial projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate capital projects from initial concept and scope development through engineering, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
• Develop project scopes, preliminary budgets, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans.
• Coordinate engineering activities involving process, mechanical, piping, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation, and fire protection disciplines as required.
• Support the development and installation of temporary bulk chemical storage and transfer systems.
• Evaluate applicable fire codes, building codes, environmental requirements, and other regulatory requirements associated with chemical storage and handling.
• Coordinate with site personnel and local authorities regarding fire protection, permitting, zoning, containment, and other project requirements.
• Work with engineering resources to determine appropriate piping, pumping, pressure, transfer, and equipment requirements for chemical handling systems.
• Coordinate with internal engineering teams, including international engineering resources, to ensure technical requirements and company standards are incorporated into project designs.
• Develop and review contractor scopes of work, proposals, construction estimates, and project schedules.
• Coordinate contractors, vendors, engineering consultants, and other project resources.
• Monitor project costs, schedules, safety, quality, and overall execution.
• Identify project risks and develop appropriate mitigation plans.
• Facilitate project meetings and communicate project status, action items, risks, and upcoming activities to stakeholders.
• Provide field support during construction, installation, startup, and commissioning activities.
• Ensure projects are executed in accordance with site safety requirements, applicable codes, engineering standards, and company procedures.
• Maintain appropriate project documentation, including drawings, specifications, estimates, schedules, permits, and project records.

Education

Overview/Summary:

The Project Manager will provide on-site project management and engineering coordination for capital improvement projects within an operating chemical/process manufacturing facility. This position will work closely with site leadership, engineering resources, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to develop project scopes, coordinate engineering activities, establish budgets and schedules, and support projects through construction and implementation.

An immediate priority will involve supporting a temporary bulk storage and transfer system for isopropyl alcohol (IPA) while an existing IPA column is being replaced. The Project Manager will help determine the engineering, regulatory, fire protection, containment, piping, and infrastructure requirements necessary to safely implement the temporary storage system.

• Experience working with flammable or hazardous chemical storage and handling systems strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with applicable fire codes, secondary containment requirements, permitting, zoning, and regulatory considerations for industrial projects.
• Experience developing project scopes, budgets, schedules, construction estimates, and contractor work packages.
• Ability to coordinate multiple engineering disciplines, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong field presence with the ability to independently drive projects and resolve issues.
• Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management/scheduling tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting projects involving IPA, solvents, flammable liquids, or similar chemical storage and transfer systems.
• Knowledge of NFPA requirements related to flammable and combustible liquids.
• Experience coordinating with local fire departments, permitting authorities, zoning departments, and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
• Experience with Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Management (PSM), and project execution within an active chemical manufacturing facility.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus but not required.
