Job description

As a Capital Markets Trader, you’ll track market conditions to sell mortgages and mortgage-backed securities, create models and reports of trends, and maintain relationships with buyers.

About the role

• Execute sales of mortgage loan pools under the direction of leadership

• Regularly evaluate all execution avenues, including MBS, cash window, whole loan, servicing released/retained and private-label securitization

• Explore new mortgage loan sale opportunities

• Create, maintain and deepen relationships with buyers of whole loan and/or mortgage assets (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, Wall Street firms, large national mortgage banks, depository banks and other financial institutions)

• Monitor market conditions, investor sentiment and trading volume/activity

• Regularly communicate emerging market dynamics and valuation trends to team members and colleagues

• Assist in the development of a mortgage trading strategy meant to maximize profits while reducing risk

• Identify relative value opportunities that support business/team strategies

• Prepare reports detailing executed trades, profits and losses

• Monitor and manage our pipeline of loans not yet sold

• Provide guidance to junior traders and team members

• Design and implement major process changes where warranted

• Responsible for multiple trading books on the desk

• Occasionally serve as leadership alternate when more senior leaders are unavailable

About you

Minimum qualifications

• 2 years of experience in trading

• Some experience in mortgage process/secondary market trading

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite

Preferred qualifications

• 4 years of experience in trading
