Job summary

North Carolina Department of Justice seeks Attorneys V (NS) to handle capital direct appeals and post-conviction work, representing the State in appellate and federal proceedings.

You will research and prepare briefs, present oral argument, and assist District Attorneys on complex post-conviction capital litigation, including investigations and hearings across NC courts. Some travel, including occasional overnight stays, is required.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in North Carolina.
• Five years of progressively responsible professional legal experience.
• Experience in capital litigation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct Capital Appeals, including briefs and oral argument in appellate courts.
• Represent the State in post-conviction capital litigation and related motions.
• Handle federal habeas corpus litigation and associated hearings.
