Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Senior Quality Engineer to lead continuous improvement and root cause analysis across our manufacturing and service areas on space launch vehicles and related technologies.

You will drive quality from design through production, mentoring teams and collaborating with customers to ensure reliable, safe human spaceflight.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering/science or ASQ CQE certification.
  • 6+ years in engineering with leadership in RCA/CA/Kaizen.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, Lean, and continuous improvement.
  • Quality in production, aerospace/space or aviation preferred.
  • Knowledge of AS9100/ISO9000 and related programs.
  • Strong facilitation and negotiation skills for cross-level teams.
  • Strong communication and collaboration across internal/external customers.
  • Data analysis and visualization tools experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead CI and RCA activities across the organization.
  • Coach teams through lifecycle to identify value-added solutions.
  • Identify metrics to improve safety, quality, reliability, efficiency.
  • Support CAB and other meetings to drive improvements.
  • Participate in design reviews to improve quality and manufacturability.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will develop and execute commercial quality processes for the design, test and manufacture of launch vehicles, spacecraft, and related technologies. You will be responsible to drive quality products throughout the organization by maintaining a corporate culture that emphasizes accountability and attention to detail at all levels.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead Continuous Improvement and Root Cause Analysis activities
  • Coach CI and RCA teams through the process lifecycle to identify value added solutions and drive adoption across the organization
  • Identify appropriate metrics to evaluate process performance and drive improvements in safety, quality, reliability and efficiency
  • Support Corrective Action Board (CAB) and other program and functional meetings to drive an improvement culture
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and make recommendations to improve the quality and manufacturability of new designs
  • Provide quality assurance domain expertise across the enterprise
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers on quality related concerns; develop and present training materials to build quality awareness

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. in engineering/science or American Society of Quality, Certified Quality Engineer certification
  • 6+ years' industry experience in an engineering field
  • 5+ years' experience in leading Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Actions, Process Improvements, and/or Kaizens
  • Experience with Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement
  • Quality experience in production environment. Aerospace, space launch, or military or commercial aviation preferred
  • Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management System and/or related quality systems and programs
  • Superior facilitation and negotiation skills - able to facilitate and lead teams at all levels of the organization through challenging conversations to identify and deploy solutions, and drive enterprise-wide adoption
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - able to develop and deliver presentations to all levels of an organization
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (i.e. JMP, Minitab, Power BI, Tableau)
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Quality assurance experience in rocket engine production environment
  • QMS audit experience and quality performance measurement analysis capabilities
  • Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with MRP/ERP systems is a plus.
