Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a qualified CANS assessor to support youth across Ohio in virtual, home, school, and community settings. You will maintain accurate documentation in the EHR and CANS portal, collaborate with families and clinicians, and navigate OhioRISE referral pathways.

The role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and Medicaid billing ability. Travel within designated service areas is expected, with adherence to HIPAA and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Current Ohio CANS certification or ability to certify within 21 days.
  • 2-3 years in community mental health or related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of child/adolescent behavioral health and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to bill Medicaid without restrictions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with safety rules.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid regulations and compliance.
  • Access to reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
  • Auto insurance coverage is required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Internet-based office tools and EHRs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive CANS assessments for youth in various settings (virtual, home, school, community).
  • Build knowledge of OhioRISE referral pathways and program offerings.
  • Maintain accurate records in the EHR and CANS portal per requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, families, and partners to translate findings.
  • Develop relationships with referral systems and collateral agents.
  • Utilize databases and EHR systems for client documentation.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and professional ethics.
  • Travel within designated service areas.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Conduct comprehensive CANS assessments for children, adolescents, and transitional-age youth (birth through age 21) in virtual, home, school, and community settings
  • Build and maintain knowledge of the organization and OhioRISE referral pathways and specialty program offerings, including but not limited to 1915C waivers, YFC/Ifast/IHBT, and QRTP requests
  • Maintain accurate, timely records in the electronic health record and CANS portal in accordance with agency, state, and OhioRISE requirements
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, families, and community partners to translate assessment findings and next steps
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with referral systems, community partners and collateral agents involved in the CANS or OhioRISE umbrella of care
  • Utilize databases and Electronic Health Record systems for accurate client documentation
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, mandated reporting requirements, and professional ethical guidelines
  • Travel within designated service areas
  • All other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Current Ohio CANS certification or ability to certify within the first 21 days of employment
  • 2-3 years of experience in community mental health, child welfare, or a closely related human services setting is required
  • Advanced communication skills, both oral and written is required
  • Advanced organizational skills are required
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent behavioral health, trauma-informed care, and family systems is required
  • Ability to bill Medicaid without restrictions is required
  • Ability to maintain confidential information is required
  • Ability to adhere to all safety, rules, regulations and requirements
  • Knowledge of Medicaid regulations and compliance requirements is required
  • Access to reliable transportation is required
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required
  • An appropriate level of auto insurance coverage is required
  • Ability to manage deadlines within a fast-paced, high-volume environment is required
  • Ability to operate in an Internet-based, automated office environment is required
  • Ability to maintain high-speed internet connection is required.
