CANNON CREWMEMBER
OVERVIEW:
As a Cannon Crewmember, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Army missions. You’ll work with advanced Howitzers to assist infantry and tank units, learning to handle ammunition, operate weapons systems, and calculate targets.
JOB DUTIES
- Communicate over wire and radio.
- Identify target locations.
- Operate self-propelled howitzers, ammunition trucks, and other vehicles.
- Participate in reconnaissance operations.
Requirements:
- Be between the ages of 17–40.
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Submit to background and medical screening.
- Receive a passing score on the ASVAB.
TRAINING:
10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 6 weeks and four days of Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, OK. Training includes classroom and field exercises under simulated combat conditions.
Skills learned include:
- Calculating targets manually and electronically.
- Handling ammunition.
- Operating gun systems.
- Artillery tactics and battle strategy.
