Job summary

The United Green, a cannabis company in Detroit, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and close processes. This hands-on role requires leadership of 1–2 staff and strong regulatory expertise to ensure accuracy and compliance in a high-volume environment.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of accounting/finance experience, knowledge of QuickBooks, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, controls, and regulatory reporting.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team and oversee the accounting and financial operations of our cannabis company. This is a hands‑on role responsible for all financial reporting, daily bookkeeping, and accounting processes. The ideal candidate will have prior experience at a cannabis company or high volume manufacturing company with $75M+ in annual revenue, preferably in a manufacturing environment, and will bring a strong combination of technical skill, organization, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage daily bookkeeping and accounting operations, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance


• Oversee all financial reporting and ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations


• Supervise and mentor 1-2 accounting staff


• Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes


• Maintain and optimize QuickBooks accounting system


• Monitor cash flow, budgets, and forecasts, providing insights for business decision‑making


• Ensure compliance with cannabis‑specific financial regulations and reporting requirements


• Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets


• Maintain organized and thorough financial records

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of accounting/finance experience, with prior experience in the cannabis industry strongly preferred


• Experience with QuickBooks and other accounting software


• Proven ability to manage a small accounting team (1-2 direct reports)


• Strong understanding of general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting


• Detail‑oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities


• Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
