Job summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York seeks a Technician B to support gastric cancer research by performing established laboratory procedures under supervision of the PI and senior staff. Responsibilities include cell culture, molecular biology techniques (RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry), tissue handling, data recording, and maintaining logs and safety compliance.

Bachelor's degree in biology or related field is required; experience with tissue culture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, or related field.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures, scientific methods, and laboratory safety practices.
  • Ability to maintain records and documentation in accordance with procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and maintain cell cultures using established cancer cell lines and organoid models.
  • Perform routine molecular biology procedures: cloning, RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, Western blotting, and flow cytometry, under supervision.
  • Assist with animal research procedures: drug administration, tumor monitoring, tissue collection.
  • Process and prepare mouse and human tissue specimens for analyses.
  • Collect, organize, record, and maintain experimental data.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and inventories; document procedures and results.
  • Provide updates on procedures, data collection, and project tasks to supervisors.
  • Assist with organizing research records, data tables, and materials for meetings and reports.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for reports and presentations.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and assist with equipment maintenance.
