Job summary

GBMC HealthCare in Baltimore seeks a data-focused Cancer Registry Technician to collect, abstract, and follow-up malignant cases using our registry system.

Under supervision, you read medical records, code topography and morphology, and collaborate with clinicians and researchers to support cancer studies; duties include data assembly, reporting, and ensuring accuracy per ACOS standards.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret medical information to code malignant cases per ACOS requirements.
• Abstract information from patient records to complete registry data elements.
• Operate a computer terminal to retrieve patient information and perform registry inquiries.
• Analyze and interpret cancer registry data for users of the registry.

Responsibilities

• Follows procedures for identifying all malignant cases from hospital departments and clinics.
• Obtains core patient information including demographic characteristics and diagnosis.
• Annually updates disease status and maintains follow-up targets at defined rates.
• Maintains data systems and assembles/disseminates registry data on request.
• Codes topography/morphology and consults with co-registrars on unclear diagnoses.
• Performs clerical/secretarial/technical duties in registry tasks.
• Encourages ACOS/COC compliance by providing pathology reports and staging forms.
• Manages cancer conferences: compiling agendas, recording data, and compiling tumor board data.
• Maintains CTR/registry credentials and participates in CME and regional/national events.
• Balances productivity standards with additional registry work.
• Captures subsequent treatments and updates disease/vital status as needed.
• Verifies cancer patient coverage with annual reconciliation lists from the state.
