Job summary

LifeBridge Health's Carroll Hospital in Westminster, Maryland, seeks an experienced Cancer Registry Data Specialist to support the cancer program by identifying, abstracting, and coding cancer data from multiple sources for inclusion in the program database.

The role involves follow-up with patients and providers, ensuring regulatory compliance, and assisting in survivorship care planning using CRStar and Journey Forward. Onsite orientation is required, with potential remote work thereafter.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Oncology Data Specialist is required.
• Knowledge of cancer registry standards, including Maryland/National Cancer Reporting Act, CoC Program Standards, and relevant coding/classification systems.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), preferably Cerner and Mosaiq.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to continued education and maintaining credentials and certifications.

Responsibilities

• Accurately identify, collect, and abstract comprehensive cancer-related data using Cerner and/or Mosaiq.
• Interpret pathology, radiology, treatment records, laboratory results, and other documentation to assign appropriate diagnostic and/or procedural codes.
• Ensure compliance with data collection standards from organizations such as CoC, NAACCR, AJCC, SEER, FORDS, ICD-O, WHO, and HIPAA.
• Perform lifetime follow-up on cancer cases by contacting external hospitals and providers.
• Conduct edits on abstracts and resolve errors.
• Support the development of Survivorship Care Plans using CRStar and Journey Forward.
• Assist in quarterly physician QA reviews and respond to RFIs.
• Participate in planning cancer conferences and committee tasks.
• Collaborate with internal departments, external facilities, and providers in a professional and proactive manner.

Job description

Summary:
The Cancer Registry Data Specialist supports the LifeBridge Health cancer program by identifying specific disease diagnoses, confirms the diagnosis and determines whether these patients meet specific criteria for inclusion in the LifeBridge Health cancer program database. Abstracts demographic, diagnostic and epidemiologic treatment and survival information from inpatient and outpatient reports, records and electronic databases. Codes the primary site, morphology, and clinically and/or pathologically stages the disease. Follows up with patients, physicians and clinics to obtain and update missing data. May also assist with case finding, suspense, follow up, cancer conference coordination, review RQRS alerts, review CP3Rs, assist with the preparation of survivorship care plans, physician QC, and may assist in other related duties, as assigned. This position may work remote after completion of onsite orientation.

Pay Range: $27.90 to $41.85 Based On Experience
