Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking a part-time Peer Support worker for Olive-Harvey College’s Wellness Center and Panther Pantry. The role assists students academically, socially, and emotionally and acts as a liaison between staff and students.

As a CCC student, you’ll introduce peers to services, assist with goal setting, participate in outreach, and help with pantry tasks while maintaining a welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.
• Knowledge of CCC resources, student activities, college resources and student services.
• Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and ease in relating to people from diverse backgrounds.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of computer software programs.
• Must be able to lift 20-30 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Provide support, guidance and serve as a role model for students transitioning to college life.
• Explain CCC systems, help students access college resources and refer to appropriate resources.
• Provide academic, emotional and social support to students experiencing stress or personal challenges.
• Assist with setting goals and work toward achieving them.
• Advocate for assigned students and make referrals as necessary.
• Attend training sessions and refer to licensed professionals when needed.
• Lead or participate in outreach events on mental health awareness and wellness topics.
• Unload new pantry orders and stock pantry daily.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pantry.
• Greet pantry patrons and complete necessary documentation.
• Record interactions and submit reports to supervisor as required.
• Adhere to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards.
