Responsibilities

• Support Harmony Public Schools’ mission, vision and values.
• Create small-group learning environments using research-based practices.
• Plan small-group lessons to meet individual student needs.
• Provide targeted ESL instruction and progress reports to emergent bilingual students.
• Develop scaffolds based on text complexity and assessments.

• Evaluate student work to identify trends and plan next steps.
• Set goals and maintain classroom behavior standards.
• Map prerequisite knowledge for units and anticipate struggles.
• Refer students for district evaluations as needed.
• Utilize diverse instructional techniques and media.
• Protect students, equipment, and facilities.
• Maintain records per law and district policy.
• Assist administration with policies on student life, conduct, equity.
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
• Maintain professional competence and participate in staff development.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.

JOB GOAL: Provides students with research-based learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in small group settings

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Minimum two years of experience supporting K-2 ELAR and/or ESL classrooms (preferred)
• Texas Teacher certificate appropriate for level and subject area of assignment (preferred)
• ESL/Bilingual certification (preferred)

Duties And Responsibilities

• Understands and supports the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools.
• Creates a small-group environment that is conducive to learning, includes research-based best practices, and is

appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

• Plans small group lessons that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
• Provides focused, targeted, and systematic second language acquisition instruction and progress reports to the identified

Emergent bilingual students/English learners

• Develops and implements instructional scaffolds for students based on prior analysis of a lesson’s text complexity and formative assessment

• In collaboration with the classroom ELAR teacher, analyzes formative/summative assessment data to plan and makes informed adjustments to lesson preparation and instruction for small groups

• Evaluates student work samples against established criteria to identify and analyze trends and plan instructional next steps

• Supports students insetting goals and maintains standards of classroom behavior
• Analyzes year-long curriculum to anticipate student struggles and maps prerequisite knowledge for a unit of instruction
• Refers students for evaluation by district specialists as requiredEmploys a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved

• Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law , district policy, and administrative regulations
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life, conduct, and equity
• Makes provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required
• Maintains and improves professional competence
• Participates in district and campus staff development
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees
• Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues
• Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

• Light Work: may require the occasional light lifting.
• Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
• Position is in classroom setting and intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
• Moderate travel is required.
