About the Opportunity:

Under the direction of the Supervisor / Manager, the Lead will provide guidance to assign Campus Service Workers and temporary workers performing general cleaning of assigned areas at the Health Sciences Complex and Cancer Center. Work within Safety codes and regulations. Responsible for training and work of other custodians.

What you'll do:

Leadership duties:

  • Team leader, providing guidance to Campus Service Workers and assigned Temporary workers, and any other support personnel as required. Follows procedures and makes work assignments to those individuals assigned to the crew to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion ensuring proper quality and quantity. Inspects completed work assignments of assigned workers to ensure quality control. Ensures that proper safety procedures are used while performing job duties.
  • Receives work orders. Interfaces with Control Center, Supervisors, Managers, and/or requesting party to finalize set-up needs, event needs and/or scope of request. Communicates work assignments to employees creating efficiency and a timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Provides continual inspection of assigned area to ensure proper cleaning procedures ad practices are being followed.
  • Individual will have remain up-to-date on various cleaning products, equipment, safety procedures, medical monitoring and other associated practices of the custodial field.
  • Provides continual updates on progress of assigned areas, maintenance and material needs. Ensures that work group attends training programs, completes assignments, and returns items to proper storage areas and reports areas needing attention.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for timely data entry related to leave request, tracking personal information, reviewing balances and maintaining positive leave credit balances. In accordance with the information, incumbent is responsible for overall accuracy and adhering to University Policies related to leave request approvals, documentation up to and including proper use of University equipment and adhering to University Computer Policies regarding security and proper use.
Services Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, disinfects, waxes, and polishes floors, hallways, stairs, elevators, and related fixtures using brooms, mops, rags, brushes, and powered scrubbing, buffing, and waxing machines. Cleans and disinfects bathroom walls, floors, fixtures, stalls, mirrors, lavatories, commodes, and other plumbing facilities. Replenishes bathroom supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
  • Vacuums and shampoos carpets, rugs, and upholstery using commercial vacuum cleaners and shampooers.
  • Dusts and polishes furniture, desks, table tops, file cabinets, bookcases, and related woodwork.
  • Empties and clean waste receptacles. Transport trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Cleans area around disposal sites.
  • Washes and cleans walls, ceiling, doors, windows, radiators, and ventilators.
  • Mixes, dilutes, and uses commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents, and other stringent cleaning solutions following established safety procedures. Calculates area to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required.
  • Moves, sets up, rearranges, and dismantles desks, tables, chairs, displays and other related equipment using a dolly, hand cart, or physically lifting objects. A minimum of three (3) years progressive responsibility in a leadership role and be proficient in utilizing all equipment.

Pay Grade: 10

Hours: Mon-Fri Afternoon 3p-11p

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must know how to operate powered custodial equipment and how to apply custodial products (cleaners, surface finishes and disinfectants).
  • Demonstrated ability to operate powered custodial equipment and train new employees.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and carry items as necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply custodial products (cleaners, surface finishes and disinfectants).
  • Ability to read and write and follow safety instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance levels and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to motivate wo-workers.
  • Proficient in all policies, procedures and protocol related to the custodial department.
  • Incumbent must have the ability to operate a computer and accurately enter information.
Physical Demands:
  • Good general health and stamina are required. Physical exertion is required in frequent lifting up to 75 lbs - daily
